Rainy Season is often seen as a pause in the Travel calendar. However, for some travelers, it is during the Rainy Season that the landscape finds its most honest colors. Greens are deeper, mist hangs low, and the rhythm of the city slows down.

A digital travel platform shared a list of Tourist Destinations favored by Indonesian travelers during the rainy season.

“The rainy season also influences travel trends, with more tourists seeking destinations that still offer exciting experiences regardless of weather conditions,” said Agoda's Senior Country Director for Indonesia, Gede Gunawan, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Gede stated that Indonesia's diverse natural landscapes and cultural richness continue to attract tourists wanting to experience the unique atmosphere during the rain.

Based on accommodation search data for the period January 1-25, 2026, with check-in dates between February-March 2026, here are the top five Favorite Destinations for Indonesian residents during the rainy season:

1. Bali

Bali tops the list with a 27 percent increase in accommodation searches compared to last year. In Ubud, tropical rain makes terraced rice fields and rainforests appear even greener.

Thin mist often descends slowly, enveloping valleys and temples in a meditative atmosphere. The rainy season in Bali isn't about sunbathing on the beach, but about slowing down.

Tourists can enjoy spas, yoga retreats, and boutique cafes while watching the rain fall amidst nature.

Additionally, visiting art galleries or watching traditional Balinese dance performances are also appealing choices during the rainy season.

2. Bandung, West Java

Bandung is in second place with a 27 percent increase in accommodation searches. The cool climate combined with rain makes this city comfortable to visit.

This city nicknamed “Paris van Java” is known for its colonial architecture and fashion developments.

When rain falls, the scent of wet earth mixes with the aroma of street food. Enjoying batagor, seblak, or cuanki in the cold, misty air is a unique experience.

Tourists can also head to highland areas like Lembang or Dago Pakar to enjoy restaurants with views of mist-shrouded valleys.

3. Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta ranks third with a 40 percent increase in accommodation searches compared to the previous year.

During the rainy season, the city presents a calmer atmosphere with a nostalgic feel, as if its rhythm slows down and feels warmer.

Many destinations remain comfortable to enjoy indoors or under cover, such as the Yogyakarta Palace and museums.

Drinking characteristic Coffee like kopi joss feels even more fitting when it rains. Tourists can also take batik-making classes or visit the Ullen Sentalu Museum in Kaliurang, which offers a mysterious yet impressive atmosphere.

4. Malang and Batu, East Java

Malang is in fourth place with a 47 percent increase in accommodation searches compared to the previous year. The city's cool air feels even fresher during the rainy season.

Meanwhile, Batu offers various indoor museums, such as the Angkut Museum with its transportation collection, the military-themed Brawijaya Museum, and the Mpu Purwa Museum housing Hindu-Buddhist historical artifacts.

These indoor destination choices make the Malang and Batu areas comfortable to visit while providing a warm travel atmosphere amidst the rainy season.

5. Bogor, West Java

Known as the “City of Rain,” Bogor seems to have made peace with the wet season. The city ranks fifth with a 15 percent increase in accommodation searches compared to the previous year.

At the Bogor Botanical Gardens, the expanse of lush trees looks greener and fresher after the rain. Thin mist hangs among the ancient trees, creating a theatrical atmosphere.

Various street foods like Bogor asinan and soto kuning taste even more delicious to savor in the cold air.

Tourists can also visit centers for traditional gong crafts to learn about local culture, or relax in a villa in the Puncak area while sipping a cup of hot tea from the surrounding plantations.

The rainy season, for many travelers, is no longer a barrier but instead becomes a reason to explore in a different way. Slower, more intimate, and more reflective.
