The Liverpool versus Manchester City clash remains the Premier League's prime attraction. This heavyweight encounter will take place in Matchday 25 of the 2025–2026 Premier League at Anfield Stadium on Sunday, 8 February 2026,  with intense focus on Erling Haaland.

For Manchester City, the away trip to Anfield brings fond memories from this season's first meeting. The Citizens silenced Liverpool with a resounding 3-0 victory at Etihad Stadium in Week 11. Haaland also found the scoresheet, cementing his status as City's goal machine.

However, a different story awaits when City visits Merseyside. Anfield has historically been an unfriendly arena for Haaland. The Norwegian international striker has never experienced victory while playing at Liverpool's home ground.

From four visits to Anfield, City recorded three losses and one draw. More strikingly, their star striker Haaland has never scored in away matches against Liverpool—a stark contrast to his reputation as a penalty-box predator.

Haaland's first Anfield visit occurred during the 2019–2020 Champions League group stage with Red Bull Salzburg. Liverpool emerged 4-3 winners in a fierce battle showcasing the legendary stadium's atmosphere.

The Anfield curse continued after Haaland joined Manchester City. In Matchday 11 of the 2022–2023 Premier League, City fell 0-1 to Mohamed Salah's solitary goal. The following season, Haaland again failed to score when City drew 1-1 in Week 28.

Similar fate repeated in Matchday 11 of the 2024–2025 Premier League. City suffered a 0-2 defeat after Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah breached their defense, while Haaland remained goalless.

Despite his unfavorable Anfield statistics, Haaland still commands high respect from Liverpool's defense. The Reds' captain and key defender, Virgil van Dijk, acknowledged the striker's quality.

"He's an exceptional striker, and I've faced Erling for years," he stated.

"He's a modern forward—powerful, a born goalscorer—and will be difficult to handle," Van Dijk concluded.

This weekend's clash thus becomes a mental and quality test for Haaland: break the Anfield curse or return home with bitter memories.
