Manchester United has chosen a different path amidst performance pressure. While many clubs utilize the January transfer window to patch deficiencies, the Red Devils have decided not to make any signings at all. Old Trafford is now fully entrusting the team's fate to Michael Carrick and the existing inherited squad.
Manchester United has asked Michael Carrick to work with the current squad until the end of the season as interim manager. This decision confirms the club's cautious approach during the transition phase towards a permanent manager next summer.
Based on a report from ESPN, MU opted for internal stability over instant solutions via the player market.

Carrick was appointed as Manchester United manager until the end of the season on Tuesday (January 13) local time. He was selected after competing with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ruud van Nistelrooy to become the transitional figure following the Dismissal of Ruben Amorim, while the club prepares for a Permanent Manager Appointment in the summer.
The decision not to make signings in January comes amid concerning performance records. MU has secured only one win in its last seven matches across all competitions.
According to the same source, the club management acknowledges the need to strengthen the midfield. However, the unavailability of primary targets in January led MU to refrain from risky emergency signings that might not align with long-term plans.
Several names were linked with MU, including players from Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Brighton. Nevertheless, the club chose to wait for the right moment.
MU's optimism is supported by the gradually improving squad condition. Several players are starting to return from Injury. Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo have also been confirmed ready to play against Manchester City this Weekend after completing international duties with their national teams at the Africa Cup of Nations.
With these developments, the club management believes Carrick has sufficient squad depth to navigate the remaining 17 matches of this season's Premier League without new additions.
Not only regarding arrivals, Manchester United is also reported not to be selling any players in January. Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, and Kobbie Mainoo are expected to remain at Old Trafford until the transfer window closes.
