Chelsea embarks on a new chapter. Following a period marked by inconsistency and managerial changes, Chelsea has officially appointed Liam Rosenior as the new helm of The Blues. The question now is whether Rosenior can revive Chelsea and steer them back onto the path of victory.

Chelsea officially announced the appointment of Liam Rosenior as the club's new manager with a long-term contract until 2032.

Rosenior arrives at Stamford Bridge after 18 months managing French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, owned by BlueCo which also controls Chelsea.

He was appointed to replace Enzo Maresca, who was dismissed from his position on New Year's Day 2026.

“This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud, long history of winning trophies,” said Rosenior, quoted from Chelsea's official website on Tuesday.

Rosenior stated his task is to maintain the club's identity and build a team while continuing to win trophies. He promised to give everything to bring success to Chelsea.

Currently, Chelsea sits fifth in the Premier League Standings with 31 points. They are winless in their last four league matches, with three draws and one defeat.

In their last match, they drew 1-1 with Manchester City under the guidance of interim manager Calum McFarlane.

“I am hugely excited to work with this extremely talented group of players and staff, building strong relationships both on and off the pitch, and creating an environment where everyone feels united and driven by the same purpose,” he said.

Rosenior's track record paints a picture of a young coach with a consistently rising Profile. After a 17-year playing career, including spells with Brighton & Hove Albion, Hull City, Reading, and Fulham, Rosenior retired at the end of the 2017/2018 season.

His initial steps into coaching began in 2018 as assistant coach for Brighton's U-23 team. He then took on various roles at Derby County, including serving as caretaker manager for 12 matches at the start of the 2022/2023 season.

Rosenior was later appointed permanent manager of Derby and led the club in 78 matches over one and a half seasons. In the 2023/2024 season, he nearly guided Derby to the Championship playoffs, finishing in seventh place.

The following season, Rosenior moved to Strasbourg and led the club to a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1, securing qualification for the Europa Conference League.

This season, Strasbourg also secured a spot in the Europa Conference League knockout phase after achieving five wins and one Draw in the group stage. However, the challenge at Chelsea is clearly on a completely different level.

Rosenior becomes Chelsea's fifth permanent manager since 2021, following Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, and Enzo Maresca.

Immediate pressure comes in his debut match. Rosenior's first game sees him lead Reece James and teammates to Craven Cottage to face hosts Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday, January 8th, 2026 at 02:30 WIB.

This match will be Rosenior's first test to answer the big question: can he revive Chelsea?
