Espanyol will host city rivals Barcelona in the Catalan Derby as part of the 19th week of La Liga fixtures on Sunday, January 4, 2026. This match is not just a battle for city bragging rights; it also tests whether Barcelona's dominance will continue or if Espanyol's resurgent momentum can disrupt it.

League leaders Barcelona arrive with high confidence after securing 10 consecutive wins in the league. Blaugrana currently top the table with 46 points, four points clear of their closest challengers, Real Madrid.

On paper, Barcelona are far superior to the hosts. However, Espanyol are no easy opponents.

Espanyol are in their best form after winning their last five league matches and currently occupy fifth place in the Standings. They have often troubled Barca in home Catalan Derby fixtures.

The battle at the top remains intense. Second-placed Real Madrid with 42 points will host sixth-placed Real Betis.

Meanwhile, El Real's city rivals, Atletico Madrid, sitting third with 37 points, will visit the home of Real Sociedad, a lower-table team winless in their last four matches. Atletico have a strong chance of taking three points from this trip.

Villarreal will look to bounce back after being defeated 0-2 by Barcelona in their previous match. The Yellow Submarine are scheduled to visit Elche's home ground.

At the bottom of the table, the relegation battle is equally fierce. The three lowest-ranked teams are fighting again to preserve their Survival Chances from relegation.

18th-placed Girona will Travel to face 13th-placed Mallorca. A win could lift Girona out of the relegation zone.

19th-placed Real Oviedo will visit 14th-placed Alaves. Even with a win, Oviedo would still remain in 19th place.

Meanwhile, bottom club Levante will visit Sevilla's home ground. Regardless of the result, Levante will remain in the relegation zone.
