Amid Jakarta's usual hustle and bustle synonymous with traffic jams and fast-paced rhythms, the Christmas and New Year holidays (Nataru) reveal a different face of the capital. One of the simplest yet most enjoyable ways to explore Jakarta during this period is via the Free double-decker tourist bus.

Those wishing to explore Jakarta City during the Nataru holiday can experience City Tourism using double-decker buses operating at Rp0 or free of charge.

From the bus's upper deck, Jakarta unfolds as an urban landscape rich with historical layers, green spaces, and city icons. The dome of Istiqlal Mosque, the vast Monas square, to rows of old buildings in the city center become viewable panoramas without needing to switch vehicles or endure street heat.

"Simply by tapping an electronic money card, passengers can enjoy this unique experience from the top of the double-decker bus," said Ayu Wardhani, Head of Public Relations and CSR Department at TransJakarta, in Jakarta on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

This experience is designed as a relaxed, safe, and family-friendly City Tour. Passengers only need to board, sit, and let Jakarta tell its story through the bus's large second-floor windows.

She mentioned that passengers can choose three main departure points: BW1 (Juanda Istiqlal Bus Stop), BW2 (IRTI Monas Bus Stop), and BW4 (IRTI Monas Bus Stop).

These points aren't mere stops but gateways to Jakarta's stories—from colonial traces and independence symbols to modern urban dynamics.

Along the route, tourists can enjoy a blend of historical buildings, public spaces, and Jakarta's ever-evolving contemporary face.

"Many interesting spots to explore along this route. We want passengers to sit back and enjoy memorable journeys with family," Ayu stated.

For families, couples, or solo travelers, this tourist bus offers an urban version of Slow Travel—unhurried, cost-free, and stress-free.

It's a way to see Jakarta not as a city to conquer, but to savor.

However, this experience also comes with shared responsibility.

She urged all passengers to maintain order and cleanliness aboard the buses for collective comfort.

Besides tourist buses, from Wednesday, December 31, 2025, until Thursday 23:59 WIB, the Jakarta Provincial Government also waived fares for TransJakarta buses, LRT Jakarta, and MRT Jakarta.

This policy not only eases citizen mobility but also opens opportunities for anyone to explore Jakarta more inclusively and sustainably. (ANTARA)
