Visitor numbers for the Borobudur sunrise experience on January 1, 2026, reached 80 people—exceeding the target of 50.
This figure represents more than statistics; it demonstrates modern travelers' growing pursuit of moment-based experiences over destination-focused Tourism.
Sunrise as Experience, Beyond Scenery
Sunrise viewing at Borobudur isn't seasonal programming but part of a long-term strategy, having evolved into one of the temple's regular activities.
Indung Purwita Jati, Operations Director of PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur Prambanan and Ratu Boko, explained Borobudur's core strength lies in its fusion of landscape, light, and perspective.
"The summit offers exceptional sunrise views, and we continuously refine this program to deliver memorable experiences for Borobudur visitors," he stated.
The sunrise activity attracts both Foreign Tourists and Domestic Tourists, with visitor feedback confirming this appeal.
"Participants express delight in Borobudur's sunrise activity, describing extraordinary views and unique experiences unmatched by other destinations," he added.
Borobudur's Uncopyable Dawn
Borobudur at daybreak possesses an irreplicable quality—a synthesis of geography, light, and stillness.
"Borobudur's sunrise differs from elsewhere," he emphasized. "Visitors directly witness the sun's emergence while taking in stunning vistas of Menoreh Hills, Mount Merapi, and Mount Merbabu."
"Alhamdulillah, clear weather provided perfect visibility for Borobudur's sunrise that morning," he noted.
Amid a world saturated with visual distractions, Borobudur offers a simple yet increasingly rare experience. On 2026's first morning, at least 80 people chose to begin their year there. (ANTARA)
