Amid public scrutiny over the gold medal bonus increase, Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir stated that discussions for silver and bronze medalists are still in the calculation stage. The bonus amount for silver and bronze medalists at the 2025 SEA Games has yet to be decided.
“Not yet, we will discuss it later. But certainly, gold is already set at one billion rupiah,” Erick told journalists in Bangkok on Monday evening, December 15, 2025.
This statement confirms the government’s current primary focus remains on the highest recognition for gold medalists.

Erick explained that in the context of the SEA Games, the government's main success metric is the number of gold medals, not the total medal count.
Therefore, the bonus policy is designed with gold as the top priority in the national athlete reward system.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had directed that bonuses for SEA Games 2025 gold medalists be significantly increased.
The bonus, previously around Rp500 million, was officially raised to Rp1 billion.
The President's request was conveyed during the send-off of the 2025 SEA Games contingent at the State Palace in Jakarta and immediately agreed to by the Youth and Sports Minister along with the State Secretariat Minister.
However, Erick could not confirm whether the bonus increase policy would also apply to silver and bronze medalists.
He asked the public to be patient until the government makes an official decision after internal discussions.
Although still awaiting final figures, Erick emphasized the state will still give high appreciation to silver and bronze medalists who fought for Indonesia's name at the Southeast Asian level.
“Certainly, silver and bronze medalists will receive bonuses too—they've fought hard,” he said, ensuring non-gold medalists' contributions won’t be overlooked.
Furthermore, Erick stated this bonus policy is part of the President's broader vision to seriously develop Indonesian sports sustainably.
Athlete rewards are not just seen as appreciation but also as a long-term investment. (Antara)
