Rafael Nadal has once again greeted the public in Jeddah. Not to compete, but to carry out his role as a global tennis ambassador for the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals, held from 17–21 December.

The Spanish tennis legend returns to Saudi Arabia to expand his mission, inspire the younger generation and help build the future of tennis in the Middle East region.

“Returning to Jeddah for the Next Gen ATP Finals is something I look forward to,” said Nadal as quoted from ATP on Friday, December 12, 2025.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion indeed holds a special place in the hearts of Saudi fans.

“I have received the warmest welcome in Saudi Arabia and I feel there is a real energy for tennis," he added.

As ambassador of the Saudi Tennis Federation (STF), Nadal's presence is not merely symbolic. The former world No.1 tennis player will appear in a number of the tournament's official events.

One of the most anticipated events is the fan meeting at King Abdullah Sports City on December 19. This is an opportunity for the Saudi people to meet directly with the sports icon who has dominated the global stage for two decades.

“As I have said, my goal is to help inspire the next generation, in Saudi Arabia and around the world,” said Nadal.

He emphasized that his collaboration with the STF is not just a ceremonial visit, but a long-term effort.

“Working with the STF to develop the great potential of tennis that has shown impressive progress is one of the key elements,” he said.

That commitment brought Nadal back to Jeddah this year.

“The reason I returned is to see the progress at all levels and help achieve that goal. I am very proud to be able to help more children to pick up a racket, compete, or just discover something new they enjoy,” he said.

Last year, Nadal had a busy schedule in Jeddah, from fan meetings, attending the STF U14 tournament awards, to holding a clay court training session for young Saudi players at The Racquet Space.

He also visited Onyx Arena to meet participants of the country's first wheelchair tennis event and held discussions with ATP Tour stars such as Jakub Mensik, Alex Michelsen, and Joao Fonseca, the U-20 event winner.

This year's visit by Nadal is part of a tournament series full of future talents. The 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals will feature accomplished young talents, including last year's finalists Learner Tien, Alexander Blockx, Dino Prizmic, Martin Landaluce, Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, Nishesh Basavareddy, Rafael Jodar, and Justin Engel.

With his presence, Nadal is not only the global face of tennis, but also a mentor for the next generation.
