The Indonesia U-22 team is in a critical situation in the football event of the SEA Games 2025. Garuda Muda is threatened with packing their bags early, even before stepping onto the pitch for their final match against Myanmar U-22.

Indonesia began their journey in Group C of SEA Games 2025 with disappointing results. The Red-and-White team fell 0-1 to the Philippines at the 700th Anniversary Stadium, Chiang Mai, on Monday, December 8, 2025.

A solitary goal by Otu Banatau made the difference and secured the victory for the Young Azkals. This defeat drastically narrowed Indonesia's chances.

With the new tournament format, Indonesia can now only hope to qualify via the best runner-up route.

However, their position is at the bottom of the SEA Games 2025 best runner-up standings. Vietnam leads with three points, followed by Timor Leste also with three points. Indonesia trails with a goal difference of -1.

Indonesia's fate now lies in the outcome of the Group B match. Vietnam will face Malaysia on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Rajamangala Stadium, one day before Indonesia's do-or-die match against Myanmar.

The scenario is simple yet cruel. If the Vietnam vs Malaysia match ends in a draw, Indonesia's chances automatically vanish. A draw would see both nations collect four points, which is enough to ensure the best runner-up comes from Group B, not Indonesia's group.

At this point, Indonesia can only hope for two things. First, Vietnam vs Malaysia must produce a winner, whoever it may be. Second, Indonesia must win big against Myanmar to boost their goal difference.

Currently, Indonesia's goal difference is -1, Timor Leste's is -3, and Vietnam holds +1. This means, even if Vietnam loses to Malaysia, Indonesia still needs a resounding victory to ensure their goal difference is superior in this tight competition.

With immense pressure and dwindling breathing room, the match against Myanmar isn't just about winning, but about winning convincingly.

If not, SEA Games 2025 could become one of the bitterest campaigns in Garuda Muda's history.
