US President Donald Trump became the center of the football world's attention after receiving the FIFA Peace Prize, the first peace award ever presented by FIFA, during the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
This historic award was presented directly by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and gained global spotlight after being broadcast live on FIFA's official YouTube channel. In its explanation, FIFA emphasized the reasoning behind awarding this inaugural trophy.
“We honor a dynamic leader who champions dialogue, stability, and harnesses football's power on the world stage. This inaugural award goes to US President Donald J. Trump for his support of ceasefire efforts across various regions, contributing to global peace,” stated the video announcement.

After the video played, Trump ascended the stage to receive the globe-shaped trophy and accompanying gold medal, which he placed around his own neck. The moment instantly sparked public reactions, given the presentation occurred during FIFA's most strategic pre-World Cup event.
Trump described the honor as a personal pinnacle achievement.
“This is one of the greatest honors of my life. We've stopped numerous wars before they even started in many places,” Trump declared upon receiving the award.
During his speech, Trump also highlighted the United States' readiness as co-host of the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, while praising the trilateral relationship.
“I've known Gianni [Infantino] for a long time. World Cup ticket sales this time are extraordinary. You'll witness the most spectacular tournament ever. Our cooperation with Canada and Mexico is extremely close and friendly.”
Not stopping there, Trump concluded his address with an optimistic statement about America's global standing.
“The world is now a better place. A year ago, the United States wasn't in this position, but today we are the 'hottest' country in the world!”
This FIFA Peace Prize ceremony marks a new historical milestone for world football's governing body as it awarded a peace prize for the very first time.
