Australian fighter Jack Della Maddalena (record 18-2) now holds the welterweight championship belt and is on the radar of MMA betting pundits, especially due to boxing skills considered ‘electrifying’.

On November 15, 2025, at the prestigious Madison Square Garden arena in New York, he will defend his title against former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, who moves up to welterweight division to capture the belt.

Della Maddalena indeed boasts a strong boxing foundation—12 of his 18 professional victories ended via KO/TKO, showcasing the effectiveness of his knockout punches.

“It feels almost disrespectful to Jack Della Maddalena. He can handle a boxing exchange. His boxing technique is genuinely beautiful. He might be the fighter with the best boxing technique in the UFC,” stated former UFC champion Michael Bisping.

Bisping's comment reinforces the narrative that JDM (Della Maddalena's nickname) isn't just a “KO hunter,” but a technically maturing fighter.

Makhachev's Major Challenge

Meanwhile, Makhachev carries an exceptional reputation with a 27-1 MMA record as the former lightweight ruler. His return to welterweight to pursue double-champ status underscores his ambition.

For Della Maddalena, this fight represents a proving moment—his first title defense against a globally renowned name. Should he perform as expected—stuffing takedowns, controlling distance, unleashing knockout punches—his champion status will soar.

Conversely, a loss could significantly derail his rising career.

Elements That Could Decide the Bout

Makhachev excels in grappling; Della Maddalena must keep the fight standing to maximize his striking. Most of JDM's victories stem from KOs—this remains his primary weapon to deploy.

Facing an elite opponent in New York while defending the belt creates unique pressure; young fighters like JDM must maintain peak focus.
