Speculation about Shin Tae-yong's return to the Indonesian national team coaching position has been firmly denied by PSSI. PSSI Executive Committee member Vivin Cahyano Sungkono stated that the news is baseless and not part of the federation's current agenda.

“We would like to clarify that the news regarding coach Shin Tae-yong's (STY) return is unfounded and invalid. There are no discussions whatsoever about STY in PSSI's current agenda,” Vivin said in an official statement on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Vivin conveyed that PSSI appreciates the contributions of both Shin Tae-yong and Patrick Kluivert for their hard work while managing the Garuda squad. However, the federation's focus is no longer on the past, but on building a new, more sustainable direction for Indonesian football.

“We are deeply grateful for the performance shown by Shin Tae-yong and Patrick Kluivert during their respective tenures. But now, it is time for all parties to look forward,” he explained.

Since the senior coach position became vacant after Patrick Kluivert's dismissal on October 16, following Indonesia's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, PSSI has yet to confirm a new coach capable of building the team for the long term.

Rigorous Selection Process, Focused on Vision and New Roadmap

According to Vivin, PSSI is currently conducting a thorough selection process to determine a new coach who is not only technically competent but also aligns with the vision and future direction of Indonesian football development.

“PSSI is working hard to find a senior coach who will lead the National Team in the long term in accordance with the vision and new roadmap of Indonesian football,” he said.

He added that the public is expected to give space and time so the selection process can proceed without excessive public pressure.

“We ask all parties to be patient, as the selection process for this senior men's coach is being conducted very thoroughly. We want the best figure for this position,” Vivin added.

Vivin also emphasized that building national team achievements is not an instant process.

“We also want to reiterate that achievement is an investment. It's not just about funding, but also requires time and the right strategy,” he said.

Rumors Aren't Solutions, PSSI Wants Concrete Steps

Rumors about Shin Tae-yong's return went viral on social media and became a topic of debate among fans. However, PSSI is choosing a realistic path by preparing a long-term framework, including the possibility of appointing a coach with a vision for youth player development, modern playing style, and commitment to the national football roadmap.

Several foreign names have been mentioned as targets, but there has been no official confirmation yet. Following global trends, PSSI is likely targeting a coach with experience at Asian and European levels, capable of balancing tactics and development.

With a more measured new direction, the public now awaits real breakthroughs from the federation, not just big-name talk for the coaching seat.
