Amid the dominance of big names from Europe and America, young Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen captured global attention with her extraordinary performance at WTA 250 Guangzhou 2025. Partnered with Poland's Katarzyna Piter, Janice clinched the doubles title after defeating the Taiwanese-Hong Kong duo Liang En-shuo/Eudice Chong through an intense three-set battle, 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.
This victory wasn't just about the trophy. For Janice, it symbolizes consistency and fighting spirit. In every match leading to the final, Janice/Katarzyna always had to battle from behind. They started with losses in the first set but emerged stronger in subsequent sets. In the quarterfinals, they even toppled top seeds Elena Pridankina/Quin Gleason before defeating the formidable pair Alexandra Eala/Nadiia Kichenok in the semifinals. Their champion mentality was truly tested and proven resilient.
However, Janice's journey wasn't without drama. In singles, she suffered a bitter first-round qualifying loss to Tatiana Prozorova with a tight 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-7(7) score. Ironically, this defeat came just one day after Janice made history by winning her first professional singles title at WTA 125 Jinan. In tennis, victory and defeat can come within hours—and Janice faced both with her head held high.

Today, Janice is no longer just a "potential player." Her world ranking breaking into the WTA top 80 marks a new era for Indonesian women's tennis after years of stagnation at the international level.
Alongside Aldila Sutjiadi, her previous doubles partner at WTA 125 Suzhou, Janice continues her campaign at WTA 250 Chennai, India, scheduled to face Priska Nugroho/Sofya Lansere in the opening round.
Janice's phenomenon reflects how Indonesian tennis is entering a new chapter. After the Yayuk Basuki era, Aldila Sutjiadi paved the way, and now Janice is expanding that path—proving Indonesian players can compete on the WTA stage not as mere participants, but as champions. If this momentum continues, Indonesia could reclaim a prominent position in world tennis, with Janice potentially becoming the face of the next golden generation.
