Arteta Confirms Arsenal Have Not Finished Their Transfer Activity, and Are Focusing on Strengthening the Squad in Order to Defend Their Title.

Jakarta - Holding the status of defending English Premier League champions has not stopped Arsenal from continuing to improve their squad. Manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that The Gunners will remain active in the 2026 summer transfer window to strengthen the team ahead of the challenge of retaining their title next season.

For Arteta, winning the 2025/26 Premier League title is not the end of the road. On the contrary, retaining the crown will be far more difficult, as all rival clubs will also be bolstering their squads throughout the transfer window period.

"We expect there will be transfer movement over the coming weeks. Just like every other club, we want to keep getting better. We will not stand still, we are extremely ambitious about what we intend to accomplish," Arteta stated, as quoted from Arsenal's official website on Monday, 03/08/2026.

This statement confirms that Arsenal remain open to signing new players before the transfer window closes. However, Arteta declined to discuss specific targets, emphasising that his focus is only on ensuring the squad has sufficient quality to compete consistently across the full duration of the season.

Over recent days, multiple British media outlets have linked Arsenal with Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. Arteta would neither confirm these reports nor comment on any individual player names, instead directing all discussion to the team's overall requirements rather than addressing transfer speculation.

Arsenal have already begun their squad overhaul process. The North London club have completed permanent signings for Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier, while also converting Piero Hincapie's loan deal into a permanent transfer after the defender delivered impressive performances during his loan spell from Bayer Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, a number of players have also departed Emirates Stadium, meaning the squad composition could still shift right up until the transfer window deadline. This situation means Arsenal are widely expected to make further moves to add squad depth.

Arteta stressed that strengthening the team is not simply about increasing the total number of players.
