Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has praised the performance of the Indonesian National Team throughout the 2026 AFF Cup group stage. The Dutch international admitted he was impressed by the Garuda squad's showings after watching the first two matches played by John Herdman's side.

Indonesia got their 2026 AFF Cup campaign off to an impressive start. Rizky Ridho and his teammates first secured a 5-1 victory over Cambodia, before following up that positive run with a 3-0 win against Timor Leste.

This form has apparently caught Tijjani Reijnders' attention. The older brother of Indonesian national team player Eliano Reijnders stated that Garuda have displayed promising football, and expressed hope that this level of performance can be maintained all the way through to the end of the tournament.

"I watched those two [Indonesia national team] matches and yeah, I really liked what I saw. They are playing really well," Tijjani said in an interview following a pre-season match against Inter Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday 1 August 2026, broadcast on Hanif Thamrin's Youtube channel.

"Eliano [Reijnders] also played a big part with an assist, that was great. They just need to keep this going. Come on Indonesia," he added.

Praise coming from the Manchester City player serves as extra motivation for the Indonesian squad, who are currently chasing qualification for the 2026 AFF Cup semi-final round.

Indonesia currently sit in second place in the temporary Group A standings, having collected 6 points from two matches. Garuda are just one point behind group leaders Singapore, who have earned 7 points from three fixtures.

Their next fixture will be the biggest test yet for John Herdman's side. Indonesia are scheduled to face defending champions Vietnam in their third Group A match, which will be held at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor Regency on Monday 3 August 2026.

The clash against Vietnam is widely expected to decide Indonesia's progression to the knockout stage. Should they secure a win, the Red and White Team will automatically confirm their spot in the 2026 AFF Cup semi-finals.
