Open Top Tour of Jakarta: A New Way to Enjoy Historical Tourism in the Nation's Capital

Enjoying Jakarta can now be experienced by using the Open Top Tour of Jakarta. This service takes visitors to trace the capital city's historical trails via open-roof double-decker buses on the Jakarta Batavia route, while listening to the story of Jakarta throughout the ages.

The journey from Sarinah to Kota Tua passes numerous heritage buildings, iconic districts, and city spaces that witnessed the long transformation of Batavia into Jakarta.

DKI Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno explained this service was designed not merely as a tourist transportation mode, but as an experience that connects people with the history of their city.

"The Open Top Tour of Jakarta is not just an open-roof tourist bus. It is our way of inviting residents and visitors to sit, observe, and revisit the story of the city they live in," stated DKI Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno in Jakarta.

According to Rano, the Jakarta Batavia route offers a new perspective for enjoying the capital city. From the bus' open upper deck, passengers can view the city landscape while rediscovering the history behind every building and area passed along the way.

The launch of the Jakarta Batavia route completes the Transjakarta Open Top Tour service, which now features four themed tourist routes.

Alongside Jakarta Batavia, the Jakarta Skyline route is available, offering panoramic views of the Sudirman and MH Thamrin business district from sunset until nightfall.

The Jakarta Heritage route carries passengers past historical landmarks including the Philatelic Building, Pasar Baru, Jakarta Art Building, Lapangan Banteng, Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta Cathedral, and the State Palace.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Seaside route takes visitors to experience Jakarta's coastal atmosphere, including the Pantai Indah Kapuk area.

For the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, these routes are proof that public transportation can deliver compelling tourism experiences.

"The existence of these routes demonstrates that public transportation is not only a mobility facility, but also part of Jakarta's tourism experience," said Rano.

Welfizon Yuza, President Director of PT Transportasi Jakarta, stated that the Jakarta Batavia route connects Sarinah to Kota Tua using open-roof buses fitted with audio guide systems.

Throughout the journey, passengers will listen to narration covering Jakarta's history, cultural heritage buildings, and significant events that shaped the capital's development.

To access this service, visitors may purchase tickets through the TJ:Transjakarta application at a rate of IDR 75,000 per person.

During the initial phase, the Open Top Tour Jakarta Batavia operates one bus unit with three daily departure schedules at 16.00 WIB, 18.30 WIB, and 20.30 WIB.
