World number one tennis player Jannik Sinner once again proved his dominance on grass courts after successfully defending his 2026 Wimbledon title. The Italian star defeated Alexander Zverev in a fiercely contested final match with a scoreline of 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4, on Monday 13 July 2026 WIB.
This victory positions Sinner as the 10th men's player in the Open Era to successfully retain the Wimbledon men's singles title. This trophy also marks his fifth career Grand Slam title, as well as his first Grand Slam triumph of the 2026 season.
"We both started this match extremely well. My team and I prepared as thoroughly as possible, so I want to thank every single member of my team for this incredible support," Sinner stated during the trophy presentation ceremony, as quoted by the ATP.

After winning the title in Rome, Jannik Sinner has chosen to take a rest period ahead of the 2026 French Open.
"This was yet another fantastic final, and I am absolutely delighted to come away with the win while producing such a high standard of tennis,"
Sinner was forced to dig deep after dropping the first set via tie-break. However, the 24-year-old rallied by lifting his playing intensity in the second set, before taking full control of the match momentum from that point onwards.
He claimed one break apiece in the third and fourth sets to seal the victory, after a gruelling contest that lasted three hours and 46 minutes.
Across the match, Zverev played aggressively and posted a 76% first serve success rate. Despite this, Sinner displayed exceptional composure from the baseline, maintained disciplined defensive play, and converted break opportunities at all critical moments.
Match statistics also highlighted Sinner's impressive performance. He saved the only break point he faced all match, hit 58 winners, and closed out the victory on his very first match point.
This result means Sinner now holds five Grand Slam titles from seven career Grand Slam final appearances.
Successfully defending his Wimbledon crown also confirms Sinner will retain his position as world number one. He holds a 4,970 point lead over Alexander Zverev, who will climb to world number two when the updated ATP rankings are released.
The 2026 Wimbledon trophy is Sinner's sixth title of the 2026 season, after he completed his Career Golden Masters by winning the ATP Masters 1000 Rome event back in May.
For Alexander Zverev meanwhile, he must once again wait to claim his maiden Wimbledon title. Despite finishing runner-up, the 29-year-old German recorded his best ever result at the tournament, reaching his first ever Wimbledon final having never previously advanced past the fourth round in nine prior appearances.
"Congratulations to Jannik. He has once again shown exactly why he is the best player in the world," said Zverev.
"To my team: we have had an incredible two months even with this final defeat. We came to Wimbledon having never reached the quarter-finals, and now we have made it to the final. For the first time I truly believe that one day I will be able to win this trophy."
