Colombia and Portugal both secured their places in the Round of 32 after playing out a goalless draw in the final Group K fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Florida, Sunday morning WIB. Meanwhile, the Democratic Republic of the Congo's victory over Uzbekistan clinched one of the best third-placed qualification spots and simultaneously ended South Korea's tournament hopes.

The Colombia vs Portugal fixture was played at an open tempo. Both sides committed to attacking football as they competed for top spot in Group K.

Colombia matched Portugal's high-paced game flow, though poor final-third finishing became the limiting factor for both teams.

Portugal ramped up their attacking intensity late in the first half. Ruben Neves, Bruno Fernandes and Joao Felix took turns threatening the Colombian defence, but the opposition's solid backline held firm to keep the score locked at 0-0 going into the half-time break.

The contest grew even more physical and intense after the restart. Portugal introduced Diogo Dalot and Joao Neves to add attacking creativity, while Colombia continued to rely on rapid transition play led by James Rodriguez and his teammates.

Cristiano Ronaldo got a sight of goal on the hour mark, but his strike drifted wide. Replays later confirmed the Portugal captain was also in an offside position when the ball was played.

Colombia responded just two minutes later when Richard Rios connected with a James Rodriguez cross, only to drag his shot wide of the target.

Colombia sustained their pressure. In the 66th minute, Santiago Arias forced Diogo Costa into a critical diving save. One minute later, Gustavo Puerta came within inches of putting Los Cafeteros ahead, with his strike glancing just wide of the right post of Portugal's goal.

Late drama followed. Luis Suarez failed to convert a chaotic goalmouth scramble, sending an acrobatic volley over the bar. In stoppage time, Davinson Sanchez thought he had won the match with a headed finish, only for the referee to rule the goal out.

The goalless result confirmed Colombia as Group K winners and Portugal as group runners-up, with both nations advancing to the Round of 32.

DR Congo Beat Uzbekistan

Equally dramatic action unfolded in Atlanta, where DR Congo came from behind to defeat Uzbekistan 3-1. This victory confirmed the African nation's qualification via the best third-placed ranking route.

DR Congo received an early shock when Eldor Shomurodov scored in the 10th minute. Nathanael Mbuku found the net for an equaliser in the 18th minute, but referee Felix Zwayer disallowed the goal following a VAR review. Uzbekistan held their 1-0 lead going into half time.

DR Congo emerged far more aggressive after the break. Yoane Wissa converted a 68th minute penalty to level the scores, awarded after Abdukodir Khusanov committed a foul inside the penalty area. Sustained pressure paid off when Fiston Mayele put DR Congo 2-1 ahead in the 78th minute with a close-range tap-in.

DR Congo sealed the victory in stoppage time, with Yoane Wissa netting his second goal of the match in the 90+1st minute after latching onto a through ball from Meschack Elia.

The 3-1 scoreline held until the final whistle, bringing DR Congo to 4 points and securing their ticket to the Round of 32 as one of the best ranked third-placed teams.

This result was a devastating blow for South Korea. The three additional points moved DR Congo above the Taegeuk Warriors in the best third-placed standings, confirming Son Heung-min and his squad have been eliminated early from the 2026 World Cup.
