Two Asian nations, Singapore and Japan, have once again upheld their reputation as safe, peaceful Travel Destinations for global visitors. Both countries have been listed among the world's 10 safest nations to visit per the 2026 Global Peace Index (GPI).

As reported by VnExpress International, Singapore holds 8th place globally on the peace and safety ranking, dropping one position compared to the prior year.

Japan meanwhile recorded an improvement, climbing three ranks to now occupy 10th place. This achievement further strengthens the Land of the Rising Sun's appeal as one of the world's most favoured international travel destinations.

The Global Peace Index is an annual index compiled by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP). This independent research body measures peace levels across 163 countries and territories worldwide. Assessments use 23 indicators covering societal security, conflict prevalence, and national militarisation.

Singapore is credited with maintaining strong security standards through consistent law enforcement, low crime rates, and orderly, safe urban environments. These factors leave travellers comfortable exploring everywhere from the Marina Bay precinct, to local food hubs and shopping districts.

For its part, Japan delivered very strong security performance results. The country is widely recognised for low crime rates and a robust legal system. This reputation supported the surge in International Visitors which hit a record 42.7 million arrivals across 2025.

Safety ranks as one of the top deciding factors for travellers selecting a trip destination. Amid rising geopolitical uncertainty and active conflict in multiple global regions, nations with high security standards are growing in demand for both leisure holidays and Business Travel.

The 2026 Global Peace Index report also confirms the Asia-Pacific remains the second most peaceful region worldwide, only behind Western and Central Europe.

Within the Asia-Pacific regional ranking, New Zealand placed first as the most peaceful nation.

Singapore took second place, and also stands as the Most Peaceful Country in Southeast Asia, while Japan placed third. Malaysia and Australia complete the top 5 positions.

Globally, Iceland retained its title as the world's most peaceful nation for the 19th consecutive year. New Zealand and Switzerland followed in the subsequent ranks.

Singapore and Japan's placement among the world's top 10 safest countries marks positive momentum for the Asian Tourism industry.
