Boston, USA – Scotland National Team successfully got their 2026 World Cup campaign off to a strong start. Playing at Boston Stadium, United States, on Sunday 14 June 2026, Steve Clarke's squad overcame a spirited challenge from the Haiti National Team with a narrow 1-0 victory. This opening Group C win was secured by a single goal from midfielder John McGinn midway through the first half.

The match began at a fast, open tempo right from kickoff, with both teams lining up in an attacking 4-4-2 formation. Scotland immediately took control and poured forward onto the Haiti defence. Within the opening five minutes, Ben Gannon-Doak and Lawrence Shankland both tested the opposition Goalkeeper with separate attempts. Despite being pinned back, Haiti hit back sharply on the counter, with Louicius Deedson leading their breakaways.

In the 17th minute, Scott McTominay came agonisingly close to opening the scoring with a powerful right footed strike that crashed against the goalpost. The deadlock was finally broken after the cooling break. In the 28th minute, Che Adams played a clever flick inside the penalty area that fell loose for John McGinn. His effort took a deflection off a Haiti defender before crossing the goal line. Scotland went into the half time break holding their 1-0 lead and having created the vast majority of chances.

Scotland continued to dictate the tempo in the second half. The well organised defence marshalled by Clarke's coaching staff left Haiti struggling to create any clear opportunities against Goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Both sides made multiple substitutions as the match wore on: Haiti brought on Josue Casimir and Lenny Joseph to add extra attacking threat, while Scotland responded with tactical changes introducing Lyndon Dykes, Ryan Christie, Nathan Patterson, Kenny McLean and Findlay Curtis.

Haiti piled on the pressure during the final stages of the match. Frantzdy Pierrot came within inches of equalising with a firm header from a cross, which drifted just wide of the post. Deep into Injury time, Haiti continued to launch dangerous long balls into the Scotland penalty area, but the disciplined Scottish back line held firm to protect their lead until the final whistle. This vital opening win gives Scotland three points and puts them at the top of the early Standings for Group C.
