The Brazilian national team failed to secure a victory in their opening fixture of 2026 World Cup Group C, held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States on Sunday, 14 June 2026.

This result leaves both Brazil and Morocco with one point each at the start of Group C, a group already projected to remain fiercely contested right through until the final round of matches.

Morocco played with clear confidence from the opening whistle. Mohamed Ouahbi's side controlled the match rhythm and repeatedly troubled Brazil's defensive line through the runs of Brahim Diaz and Neil El Aynaoui.

The Atlas Lions' sustained pressure finally paid off in the 25th minute. Ismael Saibari broke the deadlock with a strike that Brazil Goalkeeper Alisson Becker failed to react to in time.

This goal put Morocco 1-0 ahead, a fair reward for the aggressive, high-tempo Football they had displayed throughout the opening phase of the match.

Falling behind forced Brazil to raise their game intensity. Carlo Ancelotti's squad shifted to a more attacking approach, looking to utilise the raw pace of their forward line.

This push yielded results in the 32nd minute. Vinicius Junior levelled the score with a curling shot that found the top corner of the goal, completely out of reach of Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

This goal marked a special milestone for the Real Madrid forward: it was his 10th international goal, scored on his 50th senior appearance for the Brazilian national team.

Following Vinicius' equaliser both sides continued to exchange attacking moves. No further goals arrived before the half time whistle, leaving the score locked at 1-1.

Immediately upon the start of the second half, Carlo Ancelotti implemented tactical changes, bringing Fabinho on to replace Casemiro and introducing Danilo in place of Roger Ibanez.

These adjustments allowed Brazil to gain greater control of the match. The Selecao dominated possession, working constantly to unpick Morocco's disciplined, well-organised defensive block that held firm throughout the fixture.

Vinicius remained Brazil's primary attacking outlet. However, Morocco's solid defensive structure led by captain Achraf Hakimi shut down every clear goalscoring chance created by the Samba side.

Looking to add extra attacking firepower, Ancelotti later introduced Matheus Cunha and Luiz Henrique from the bench. Even with these changes, Morocco maintained their game structure successfully, limiting Brazil to very few dangerous opportunities.

Morocco only made their first player substitutions in the 64th minute, brought on to refresh the squad after long periods spent absorbing Brazil's attacking pressure.

The match opened up considerably during the final 20 minutes. Both sides pushed hard for a winning goal, but poor execution in the final third saw chance after chance go wasted for both teams.

Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou received on-pitch medical treatment after suffering a shoulder knock. The Atlas Lions' first choice keeper was cleared to continue however, and remained solid between the posts for the remainder of the match.

Brazil continued to bombard Morocco's defence right through stoppage time. But despite consistent attacking build up play from Vinicius and his teammates, they could not find a breakthrough second goal.

When the referee blew the full time whistle the 1-1 scoreline remained unchanged. This opening Group C result sees both sides share the points, and leaves the race to qualify for the next tournament stage completely wide open for Brazil and Morocco alike.
