This is not Shakira's first World Cup involvement. She has become an iconic part of the tournament's entertainment history ever since she performed "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. That track remains one of the most popular Sports anthems of all time.
Now, over a decade later, Shakira has once again been entrusted to bring the tournament atmosphere to life with "Dai Dai". This track stands as a testament to how music continues to play a vital role uniting millions of fans across every nation.
In a separate interview with Vogue, Shakira explained that she sees a profound parallel between music and Football. According to her, both have the power to stir raw emotion and ignite shared passion in people all around the world.
"If there is one thing I know for certain, it is this: music and football move the masses. Both awaken deep fire inside people. That very passion is what binds them," Shakira remarked.
What makes "Dai Dai" unique goes beyond the cross-border collaboration with Burna Boy. The track also received creative input from British musician Ed Sheeran, who is credited as one of the songwriters.
Shakira revealed that the creative process working alongside Ed Sheeran ran smoothly, as both artists shared the exact same vision for a track that would resonate with listeners from all cultural backgrounds.
"We worked together incredibly well, we understood each other perfectly. I wanted this song to be a fusion of different worlds. I wanted to weave in Afrobeats vibes, Caribbean touches, live guitar, all of that. And Burna Boy was the perfect final piece - I absolutely love his voice," she told Vogue.
Created for a global audience, "Dai Dai" features lyrics across five languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French, and Japanese. Shakira explained the song carries an unmistakeable message of optimism and unyielding perseverance.
Popularity for "Dai Dai" surged further following the release of its official music video on 14 May. The video features appearances from numerous top World Football stars including Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Harry Kane, Vinícius Júnior, Luis Díaz, Jamal Musiala, and Erling Haaland.
Beyond active players, the music video also pays tribute to several global Football Legends, including the late Diego Armando Maradona, alongside appearances from iconic players Pelé, Kaká, and Ronaldo Nazário.
The success of "Dai Dai" is clearly reflected in its digital platform performance. The official music video surpassed 100 million views on YouTube just two weeks after release, making it one of the fastest growing World Cup theme songs in recent years.
