Indonesia National Football Team will face the Oman National Team for a FIFA Match Day fixture at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK), Jakarta, on Friday 5 June 2026 at 20:00 WIB. This is no ordinary international Friendly Match: it is also a chance for the Garuda Squad to end their decades-long winless streak against the side nicknamed Al-Ahmar.

38 full years have passed since Indonesia last recorded a victory over Oman. Now, under head coach John Herdman, the Garuda side are determined to rewrite this history on home ground in front of their own supporters.

According to official match logs from 11v11, Indonesia and Oman have met on 6 previous occasions. Across these fixtures, Indonesia have secured 2 wins, one Draw, and suffered 3 defeats.

Both of Indonesia's historic wins came during the King's Cup tournament. The sides first met on 24 February 1987, where Garuda claimed a clean 2-0 victory over Oman.

One year later, Indonesia repeated their dominance with a convincing 3-0 win on 18 January 1988.

Since that victory however, Indonesia have failed to register any positive result against Oman, with the Gulf side going on to control every subsequent meeting.

In a 2007 friendly fixture, Indonesia fell to a narrow 0-1 loss against Oman. Two years later, the two nations played out a goalless draw during 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualification.

When they met again in the same qualification tournament in January 2010, Indonesia were beaten 1-2. This defeat only lengthened Garuda's wait to defeat Oman once more.

The most recent meeting between the sides took place in May 2021, when Indonesia was still led by Shin Tae-yong. During that friendly match held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia suffered another 1-3 defeat.

Ahead of this upcoming clash at GBK, John Herdman has acknowledged this head-to-head record as a defining challenge for his squad. The English coach is counting on full home crowd support to help Garuda claim a Historic Victory.

"Just as always, we hope the stands will be full tomorrow night, that every fan gets fully behind this team. We have not beaten Oman in 38 years. That is the test in front of us," Herdman stated.

Meanwhile, Oman head coach Tariq Sektioui has made clear his side intends to protect their unbeaten run against Indonesia.

"It is true it has been an extremely long time since Indonesia last won against us. For our part, we will do everything possible to extend this run," said Sektioui, who will be making his official debut as Oman head coach for this fixture following his appointment in March.

Both Indonesia and Oman failed to qualify for the final tournament of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Indonesia were eliminated by Saudi Arabia and Iraq during the fourth qualification round, while Oman missed out after defeat to the United Arab Emirates and a draw against Qatar.

This match in Jakarta marks a fresh start for both nations. For Indonesia, victory will mean far more than just a single Match Result - it will finally close a wait that has stretched almost four full decades.

Backed by a full home crowd at GBK and carrying new momentum under Herdman, the Indonesia National Team stand with a real chance to write new history.
