Jonatan Christie's campaign at the Singapore Open 2026 has ended prematurely. Indonesia's leading men's singles shuttler was knocked out in the first round following a tight three-game defeat against Indian representative Prannoy H.S.

Jonatan fell 21-10, 12-21, 18-21 after a 61-minute match. This loss ends the run of the player affectionately nicknamed Jojo at this BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament.

Despite the final result, Jonatan started the match with extremely convincing form. He dominated the entire first game and completely shut down Prannoy's ability to build his play pattern.

After briefly trailing 0-2, Jojo rallied to take full control of the match. He held an 11-5 lead at the mid-game interval, extended the gap to 16-8, and eventually closed the first game with a comfortable 21-10 win.

The momentum flipped completely in the second game however, as Prannoy H.S. found his playing rhythm and adopted a far more aggressive approach from the very first point.

Following a tight opening exchange that reached 7-5, Prannoy pulled ahead to hold an 11-7 advantage at the interval. Jojo attempted to mount a comeback, but the Indian player remained composed and maintained firm control of the match tempo.

Prannoy successfully protected his lead to take the second game 21-12, forcing the match into a deciding third set.

The final game was even more fiercely contested. Both players traded the lead repeatedly, with the scores level on multiple occasions including at 10-10 and 18-18.

Jojo held a narrow 11-10 lead at the third game interval, and pulled ahead once more to 16-15 late in the set. He was unable to hold onto this advantage however.

Prannoy delivered far more consistent play on the critical deciding points. After the score was locked at 18-18, the Indian shuttler claimed three consecutive points to seal the 21-18 victory and secure his spot in the second round.

With Jonatan's elimination, only one Indonesian Men's Singles player remains in the second round of Singapore Open 2026: Alwi Farhan.

Earlier, Alwi knocked out France's Toma Junior Popov with a straight games victory, 21-19, 21-14.

A major test now awaits Alwi in the next stage. The young Indonesian shuttler is scheduled to face tournament top seed Shi Yu Qi of China on Thursday.
