The Netherlands National Team has announced their 26-man squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup. Notably, over half of this current Oranje squad consists of players active in the English league system, highlighting the massive influence the Premier League holds over the strength of Ronald Koeman's side.

Star names including Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Nathan Aké form the core foundation of the Netherlands squad. This dominance of players contracted to English clubs is a major asset for Oranje, as the vast majority of these players are already accustomed to competing in high-intensity, highly competitive match environments.

Koeman has retained a number of key senior players despite several having dealt with fitness issues over recent months. This decision reflects the manager's deep trust in the experience and proven quality of this Netherlands player group.

There is positive news regarding Memphis Depay. Oranje's leading striker has fully recovered from a Hamstring Injury and has been named in the final 2026 World Cup squad. Alongside Depay, Jurrien Timber is also included in the travelling party, even after doubts were raised over his physical condition.

Up front, Depay is set to lead the Netherlands' attack alongside Gakpo, Donyell Malen and veteran striker Wout Weghorst. With this combination of pace, creativity and experience in the final third, the Netherlands have established themselves as one of the strong contenders for this tournament.

However, Oranje suffered a major blow ahead of their World Cup departure. Xavi Simons has been ruled out after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury back in April. Simons' absence is a significant loss, given his increasingly vital role for the side over the last few years.

Alongside Simons, the omission of Jeremie Frimpong also raised major questions. The in-form full back, who has delivered outstanding performances for his club, failed to make Koeman's final squad - a decision that has surprised nearly all Dutch football analysts.

Despite missing these key names, the Netherlands still retain impressive squad depth. Frenkie de Jong will operate as the midfield pivot alongside Tijjani Reijnders and Gravenberch. Meanwhile, young prospects Jorrel Hato and Micky van de Ven are expected to bring fresh energy to the defensive line.

The Netherlands will open their Group F campaign against Japan on 15 June. They will then face Sweden on 21 June, before closing out the group stage fixtures against Tunisia on 26 June.

Backed by this blend of senior experience, Premier League proven players and emerging young talent, the Netherlands arrive at the 2026 World Cup with clear lofty ambitions.

Oranje are aiming to end their long wait and finally lift the very first World Cup Trophy in the nation's history.
