Marco Bezzecchi benefitted from post-race drama at the 2026 Catalunya MotoGP. Penalties issued to fellow riders Joan Mir and Ai Ogura altered the final official results at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The Aprilia Racing rider originally crossed the finish line in 6th position. After the revised Standings were published following penalty applications, Bezzecchi climbed two positions, extending his advantage at the top of the provisional 2026 MotoGP championship standings.

Joan Mir received a 16-second race penalty for a tyre pressure regulation violation. Meanwhile Ai Ogura was handed an additional 3-second penalty after race stewards ruled he caused the collision incident with Pedro Acosta.

With this adjusted result, Bezzecchi secured 13 extra valuable championship points to retain his series lead. He now holds 142 total points, with a 15 point buffer over his teammate and closest title rival, Jorge Martin.

Martin failed to register any additional points after retiring from the high-drama race, which was stopped twice under red flag conditions. His opportunity to close the gap to Bezzecchi has once again been delayed.

Elsewhere, Catalunya round victory was claimed by Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider Fabio Di Giannantonio, who delivered a standout performance through the chaotic race conditions.

Di Giannantonio was caught up in a major crash with Alex Marquez on lap 12, when Marquez suffered a violent highside accident that destroyed his bike and swept the VR46 rider into the incident.

Despite being impacted by the crash, Di Giannantonio recovered to complete the race and take victory, securing maximum championship points at the Catalunya event.

This points haul lifts Di Giannantonio to 3rd place in the championship standings on 116 points, reducing his deficit to Bezzecchi to 26 points.

Further back, Pedro Acosta remains 4th in the standings on 92 points, despite failing to finish the grand prix after being involved in multiple incidents over the race distance.

Ai Ogura holds 5th position with 77 points, followed by Raul Fernandez on 68 points.

Alex Marquez drops down to 7th place in the overall standings with 67 total points, after also retiring from the Catalunya race.

The 2026 MotoGP title fight has grown even tighter following the Catalunya Grand Prix, however Bezzecchi has emerged as the most consistent contender through the string of race drama, penalties and crashes that have significantly reshaped the championship order.
