Al-Nassr have had their dream of lifting the AFC Champions League 2 2025/2026 title ended, after suffering a narrow 0-1 defeat against Japanese side Gamba Osaka in the final match held at Al-Awwal Park, Riyadh on Sunday, 17 May 2026.

This defeat means Cristiano Ronaldo has once again failed to deliver a trophy for Al-Nassr since joining the Saudi Arabian club.

A single first half goal from Deniz Hummet was the difference in this tightly contested match. Gamba Osaka put on a disciplined performance, successfully withstanding wave after wave of pressure from the home side.

Playing in front of their home supporters, Al-Nassr immediately went on the attack from the opening minutes, relying on the firepower of their forward line. Despite facing this pressure, Gamba Osaka remained bold to play an open game, matching the aggressive style of Ronaldo and his teammates.

Al-Nassr created their first chance in the 7th minute through a low driven shot from Abdulrahman Ghareeb. However, Gamba Osaka Goalkeeper Rui Araki reacted quickly to collect the ball safely.

Four minutes later, Joao Felix attempted to threaten the goal with a powerful strike. Once again though, Araki showed excellent reflexes to deny the chance.

After weathering the early pressure, Gamba Osaka managed to break the deadlock in the 30th minute. Starting with a well weighted pass from Issam Jebali, Deniz Hummet received the ball cleanly inside the penalty area.

Hummet then fired an accurate shot into the bottom left corner of the goal, leaving Bento with no chance to make the save. This goal put Gamba Osaka 1-0 ahead of Al-Nassr.

As the second half got underway, Al-Nassr intensified their pressure as they searched for an equalising goal. Ronaldo came close with a long range effort from outside the penalty box, but the ball landed straight into the arms of Rui Araki.

Joao Felix also came extremely close to scoring from a golden opportunity in a similar position. Unfortunately for the home side, his strike cannoned off the goalpost despite Araki being completely rooted to the spot.

Gamba Osaka's solid defensive line left Al-Nassr frustrated throughout the entire second half. Every attacking move built by the hosts was successfully shut down right up until the final whistle.

This result confirms Gamba Osaka as champions of AFC Champions League 2 2025/2026 Season, while also crushing Al-Nassr's ambition to win their first ever continental Asian trophy alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
