Manchester City successfully lifted the FA Cup trophy after defeating Chelsea by a narrow 1-0 scoreline in the final fixture at Wembley Stadium, Saturday 16 May 2026.

The lone goal from Antoine Semenyo in the second half sealed the victory for Pep Guardiola's side in this tightly contested, high-pressure match.

This result also confirmed Manchester City secured a domestic double this season, having previously lifted the Carabao Cup. Meanwhile, Chelsea end the campaign without any silverware and now face the risk of failing to qualify for European competitions next season.

From the opening whistle, City immediately took an aggressive approach. The first chance came through Semenyo, who beat multiple opposition players before striking an effort that was blocked by Chelsea's defensive line. Omar Marmoush latched onto the loose ball, but Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez reacted quickly to make the save.

The Citizens continued to apply pressure through combination play between Jeremy Doku and Rodri. Rodri's header from Doku's cross was cleared by Chelsea's backline, before Erling Haaland attempted an acrobatic bicycle kick on the rebound that also failed to produce a goal.

Haaland did find the back of the net in the first half, however the referee ruled the goal out as Matheus Nunes was caught in an offside position before delivering the cross.

Chelsea made repeated attempts to break free of pressure with fast counter-attacks. Unfortunately, every advance from The Blues collapsed once they reached Manchester City's final defensive third.

Shortly before half-time, Chelsea appealed for a penalty after Joao Pedro went down following contact with Abdukodir Khusanov inside the penalty area. The referee opted to allow play to continue.

At the start of the second half, Manchester City created another clear cut chance. Rayan Cherki played the ball to Nico O'Reilly who sent a cross towards goal, but Semenyo's close-range header flew over the crossbar.

Chelsea lodged another penalty claim after Khusanov brought down Joao Pedro along the right side of City's defence. Again, the referee upheld his decision not to award a spot kick.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 72nd minute. Chelsea surrendered possession inside their own defensive half, allowing City to launch an immediate counter attack. Haaland linked up with Cherki before sending a cross from the right flank, which Semenyo cleverly flicked with his heel into the far post. This goal put Manchester City 1-0 ahead.

Five minutes later, Chelsea protested another referee ruling after Khusanov was deemed to have fouled Jorrel Hato inside the penalty box. For the third time, the official did not point to the penalty spot.

The Blues created a good opportunity through link-up play between Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez that found Pedro Neto, but Neto's strike from a tight angle did not test goalkeeper James Trafford.

At the opposite end, Robert Sanchez delivered an impressive performance with two vital back-to-back saves, denying efforts from Matheus Nunes and Rayan Cherki from inside the penalty area.

Chelsea had one final chance during stoppage time when Rori Delap met Malo Gusto's cross with a header. The effort drifted wide of the target however, confirming Manchester City held on for victory until the full time whistle.
