The race for the Super League 2025/2026 title has entered its hottest phase after Borneo FC secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Persita Tangerang at Segiri Stadium, Samarinda. This result brings Borneo level with Persib Bandung at the top of the Standings with an identical points tally of 72 points.

With three matches remaining, the competition will get even tighter until the final week.

Next, Persib will visit Persija's headquarters on Sunday, May 10, 2026. This match is crucial for both Persib and Persija.

Maung Bandung needs full points to remain at the top of the standings. Meanwhile Macan Kemayoran must win to keep their hopes alive.

Borneo FC also has no choice but to win when they visit Bali United's home ground.

The results of these two matches could determine the direction of the title race.

Match progression

Playing in front of thousands of supporters, Borneo displayed high intensity from the opening minutes. Fabio Lefundes' team forced Persita to defend in a low block and wait for counter-attacks.

The first chance came in the 22nd minute. Kaio Nunes fired a hard shot from inside the penalty box, but Persita Goalkeeper Igor Rodrigues denied the attempt.

The deadlock finally broke in the 38th minute. Starting from a mistake by Persita defender Muhammad Toha, Mariano Peralta quickly seized the ball before slotting it home for the opening goal. 1-0 to the hosts.

Persita tried to respond with a quick counter-attack that ended with Zulfan Djiaulhaq's header, but Nadeo Argawinata still managed to keep his goal safe.

Entering the second half, Lefundes instructed his team to press deeper to secure the victory.

On the other hand, Persita began to emerge from pressure and tested Borneo's defense, commanded by Christophe Nduwarugira, several times.

In the 58th minute, the visitors had to play with 10 men after Ricardo Rodríguez received a red card.

Borneo utilized the numerical advantage to score their second goal in the 88th minute. Substitute Muhammad Sihran breached Persita's goal and sealed the match 2-0.

This victory not only extends Borneo's positive trend but also increases pressure on Persib Bandung, who previously won 1-0 against PSIM Yogyakarta

Conversely, this result leaves Persita Tangerang stuck in ninth place in the provisional standings.
