Bogor – The journey to Karang Tengah Village, Babakan Madang District, Bogor Regency, isn't just an ordinary trek. Behind the lush Sentul forest lies a geological masterpiece often called "Bogor's Grand Canyon": Garunggang Cave.

Trekking Challenge and Mini Survival Ambience
The journey begins with a light 1-2 kilometer trek. But don't be fooled by the word "light". The undulating path with wet, slippery terrain delivers authentic adventure thrills. Minimal directional markers along the trail make this area feel like a mini survival track within Babakan Madang's pristine forest.

Along the way, fatigue is eased by clear natural springs. These aren't ordinary rocks; geologically, they originate from the Miocene era millions of years ago.

Underground Beauty: Labyrinth and Bat Colony
Physical exhaustion is rewarded upon reaching the cave mouth. Unlike typical caves, Garunggang Cave features a vertical entrance requiring visitors to descend stairs into the earth's belly.

First Cave: Offers a natural labyrinth with narrow crevices and layered stone walls in brown to blackish-gray hues.

Second Cave: More challenging with mineral flows (flowstone) forming an underground river. On the ceiling, bat colonies hang silently – guardians of an ecosystem thriving for millennia.

Stalactites and stalagmites naturally carved by water create an illusion of a breathtaking canyon, dazzling any brave enough to descend.

Unexpected Incident and Fire Department Rescue
Yet this ITSME travel series adventure had dramatic moments. While capturing aerial beauty, the team's drone got stuck in one of the area's tallest trees. Facing difficult terrain and fading light, they summoned nearby Fire Department (Damkar) officers for evacuation.

"The trail challenged us, the cave amazed us, but Damkar's drone rescue through steep terrain made an unforgettable finale," the team shared onsite.

Garunggang Cave proves Bogor's hidden gems always hold stories – from million-year geological history to heroic forest rescues. Until our next journey, ITS People!.
