Sanya – The Indonesian women's 3x3 Basketball national team officially secured a spot in the Round of 16 of the Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026. This certainty was achieved after the Merah Putih squad delivered a dominant performance and defeated Macau with a score of 17-12 in their final Group C qualifying match at the Sanya Sport Centre Gymnasium, China, Monday afternoon, 27/4/2026.
This crucial victory placed Indonesia as the Group C runner-up with a tally of two wins and one loss. Indonesia finished below the Philippines, who emerged as group winners, while Macau and Kyrgyzstan were eliminated early.
Disciplined Execution of "Gameplan"
National Team Coach, Fandi Andika Ramadhani (Coach Rama), appreciated the discipline of his players who performed solidly throughout the match. According to him, the key to today's victory was the players' adherence to the game plan, especially in stifling the opponent's movement to prevent them from scoring long-range points.
"In terms of gameplay, the match earlier went according to our preparation, which was how to defend by guarding the opponents so they wouldn't feel comfortable taking two-point shots. The opponents had to be constantly pressured," said Coach Rama.
Revival in the Group Stage
Indonesia's path to the knockout phase was the result of a progressive struggle. The Merah Putih squad had started their journey in Group C with a loss when they suffered a 11-15 defeat against the Philippines.
However, a Champion mentality was shown by Berlian Yesi Triutari and her teammates in the second match by defeating Kyrgyzstan with a convincing score of 11-6. This positive trend was then sealed with the victory over Macau, which secured the ticket to the next round.
Looking Ahead to the Round of 16
Indonesia is now awaiting their potential opponents in the Round of 16, which depends on the final Standings of Group B. Indonesia could potentially face tough challenges from strong teams like Malaysia, Taiwan, or Mongolia.
Knockout phase matches are scheduled to take place on Tuesday (28/4/2026) starting at 10.00 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB). Although the schedule is quite tight, Coach Rama is optimistic about his players' physical condition remaining optimal because they only played one match on Monday, giving them sufficient recovery time.
In the mission to achieve success at the Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026, the national team is reinforced by four key players: Berlian Yesi Triutari, Diva Intan Nur Fadillah, Angelica Jennifer Candra, and Dewa Ayu Made Sriartha Kusuma Dewi.
