Japan has reaffirmed its dominance in the global aviation sector after three of its airports ranked among the world's top 10 cleanest airports according to Skytrax 2026. This achievement highlights the Land of the Rising Sun's consistency in maintaining world-class service quality and hygiene standards.

The spotlight shines on Tokyo's Haneda International Airport, which reclaimed the top position. This marks the 10th time Haneda has been crowned the world's cleanest airport.

The award was presented by the air transport rating organization Skytrax in the large airports category.

Haneda was recognized for excelling in maintaining the cleanliness of its facilities, terminals, and passenger service areas amidst the high volume of domestic air traffic in Japan.

This accomplishment solidifies Haneda's reputation as one of the world's Best Airports

As reported by Travel+Leisure on Wednesday, Skytrax compiled these rankings based on a survey of airport users conducted from August 2025 to February 2026.

Competition in the same category was fierce. Incheon International Airport secured second place, followed by Singapore Changi Airport in third.

Narita International Airport also contributed to Japan's success by taking fourth place. Hong Kong International Airport rounded out the top five in this year's list.

Positions six through ten were filled, in order, by Taoyuan, Kansai, Zurich, Shanghai Hongqiao, and Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci.

Japan's dominance was further cemented by Kansai International Airport taking seventh place.

Japan's success extended beyond the main category. In the category for airports handling up to 30 million passengers annually, New Chitose Airport, the main gateway to Hokkaido, ranked first.

Chubu Centrair International Airport and Fukuoka Airport took the next positions. These results demonstrate the widespread strength of Japanese Airports across various categories.

Additionally, Haneda also ranked again among Skytrax's world's best airports. This year, Haneda placed third, behind Singapore Changi Airport and Incheon International Airport.

Other Japanese airports also achieved accolades. Centrair Nagoya Airport secured first place in the categories for world's best regional airport and Asia's best regional airport.

Meanwhile, Fukuoka Airport ranked second in the category for most improved airport.

The Skytrax Awards, Running since 1999, are based on a global airport customer satisfaction survey. Japan has once again proven itself a leader in international aviation hygiene standards.
