The decision of Javier Mascherano to step down from Inter Miami's head coaching position opens a new chapter. The Major League Soccer (MLS) club synonymous with Lionel Messi acted swiftly by appointing Guillermo Hoyos.
Mascherano announced his resignation for personal reasons on Tuesday night WIB through the club's official website. He ended a tenure marked by significant success.
This decision came just months after leading Inter Miami to its most glorious season in Club History.

“I've decided to end my term as head coach of Inter Miami," stated Mascherano.
"First, I want to thank the club for the trust placed in me, all staff members who contributed through collective work, and especially the players who enabled us to experience unforgettable moments."
Mascherano's departure contrasts sharply with his achievements. In his debut season, the 41-year-old coach guided Inter Miami to two major trophies, including the club's first MLS Cup and the Eastern Conference title.
Under Mascherano's leadership, Inter Miami displayed explosive offense with 101 goals across all competitions, including 20 playoff goals from 58 total matches.
Inter Miami also made history by becoming the first MLS team to reach the knockout stage of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, while securing a Historic Victory over a European club – an unprecedented achievement for any Concacaf team.
Regionally, their performance proved equally impressive, reaching the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals and Leagues Cup final, demonstrating consistency across tournaments.
Managing Owner Jorge Mas emphasized that Mascherano will forever remain a vital part of the club's legacy.
Guillermo Hoyos Appointed Interim Coach
Inter Miami named Guillermo Hoyos as interim coach. Hoyos is no stranger to Lionel Messi, having played a key role in Messi's early career at Barcelona's La Masia academy.
“He helped me immensely upon arriving at Barça. He was always there, taught me many things, and helped me reach my current position,” Messi revealed.
Now, over two decades after their relationship began, they reunite in Miami.
Hoyos brings not only nostalgia but extensive coaching experience across multiple countries, from Greece to South America.
Since last year, he served as Inter Miami's academy and sporting director before temporarily assuming the head coach role.
Inter Miami's current season shows inconsistency, with early elimination from the Concacaf Champions Cup and consecutive Draw Results in MLS.
Their new home, Nu Stadium, hasn't yet provided a decisive advantage, with the team currently third in the Eastern Conference and tenth in the overall league Standings.
The Messi-Hoyos reunion offers new hope, at least until a permanent solution emerges.
