Jannik Sinner achieved a major career milestone by winning the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters. His first ATP Masters 1000 title on clay came after defeating his main rival, Carlos Alcaraz, 7-6(5), 6-3 on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
This victory simultaneously returned Sinner to the ATP world No. 1 ranking, cementing his dominance at tennis' highest level.
This meeting marked their first clash since last November's ATP Finals final, where Sinner also emerged victorious. During the two-hour 15-minute match, the Italian player proved more effective in crucial moments.

Carlos Alcaraz Finishes Perfect Season as Year-End ATP No. 1 Player
He secured the first set via tie-break after Alcaraz double-faulted on set point. In the second set, Sinner rallied from 1-3 down before closing out the match solidly.
"We came here to try to play as many matches as possible, get good feedback before other big tournaments. Today was high-level tennis from both of us," Sinner said post-match, as quoted by ATP.
"It was a bit windy, a bit gusty. Different conditions from previous tournaments. The result is amazing. Returning to No. 1 means a lot to me. I'm very happy to win a big title on this surface. I'd never done it before and this is very special for me."
Mental Toughness Key to Comeback
Despite recording just 51% first-serve success, Sinner maintained focus and capitalized on opportunities as Alcaraz made numerous unforced errors.
"I felt good on returns and thought new balls helped me. The ball change came at 2-1, and I just tried to stay mentally focused," Sinner said about his second-set comeback.
"I tried to keep fighting. I felt a bit tired, so I worked to maintain the right mentality. Winning this trophy means so much."
Historic Achievement and Continued Dominance
This title places Sinner among elite company as the third player to win four consecutive ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, matching feats by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
He also follows Djokovic (2015) as the only players to win Miami and Monte-Carlo consecutively in a single season.
Sinner's performance grows increasingly impressive with these records:
- 17 consecutive wins this season
- 22 consecutive Masters 1000 victories
- Only one set lost throughout Monte-Carlo
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz acknowledged his rival's achievement.
"What you're achieving right now is amazing," Alcaraz told Sinner during the trophy ceremony.
"Only one person had won the Sunshine Double and Monte-Carlo before, now you're the second. That's incredible - I know How difficult it is. Congratulations on everything and the hard work with your team."
Rivalry Intensifies
This result updates their head-to-head record. Sinner now leads their recent encounters 2-3 on clay and 7-10 overall.
The win also marks Sinner's return to world No. 1, a position he previously held after winning the Paris Masters.
