The Indonesian Futsal National Team arrived at the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship in Thailand with a semifinal qualification target. Under the guidance of Spanish coach Hector Souto, the Red and White squad secured their semifinal ticket as Group B champions.

A dramatic 3-2 victory over Australia in the final group stage match confirmed Indonesia's consistency throughout the tournament.

Previously, they crushed Brunei Darussalam 7-0 and secured a 1-0 win against Malaysia.

Nine perfect points from three matches propelled Indonesia flawlessly forward.

However, for Hector Souto, this achievement isn't just about results, but a mental foundation ahead of the crucial phase.

"We've now reached our initial target, so there's no pressure on us," stated Hector in an official release after Indonesia defeated Australia 3-2 in their final group match.

With the initial target achieved, Indonesia approaches the semifinals differently – more relaxed yet focused. No excessive burden, only the drive to perform maximally and advance further.

Hector emphasized the team's job isn't finished. Evaluations continue, especially on minor details that could prove decisive in the knockout phase.

"But most importantly, preparing to maintain peak condition," he said.

Beyond on-field results, Indonesia's journey carries long-term impact. Hector sees this momentum as an opportunity to inspire Indonesia's young futsal generation.

"They (young players) can witness senior performances up close and think, 'Wow, they're only 20, 21, or 22. In four or five years I could play for the national team too'," he explained.

This message reinforces that the national team belongs not just to current players but also to the future.

That hope is strengthened by the coach's commitment to widely open doors for young talents.

"That's what we aim to do – provide new hope for young players," he concluded.
