Elkan Baggott returns to the Indonesian National Team for the FIFA Series 2026 after nearly two years of absence. For Garuda Squad coach John Herdman, the 23-year-old defender's comeback isn't just an additional option for the backline but also brings English football's professionalism standards.

Herdman hopes Baggott's presence will positively impact the Garuda Squad's performance.

"He (Baggott), playing in England's second tier, trains at an intensity I consider top-level. I hope he brings that professionalism here," Herdman stated after leading a training session at Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium on Tuesday.

Baggott arrives with competitive experience from the EFL Championship with Ipswich Town, an environment demanding high discipline, fast tempo, and physical consistency.

Herdman expects this experience to spread through the Indonesian National Team's locker room.

Baggott previously represented the U-19 team in 2020 and U-23 in 2023. His last appearance for Indonesia was at the 2023 Asian Cup.

Beyond immediate expectations, Herdman sees long-term potential. Baggott isn't just a quick fix but a foundation.

"I watched his performances for Indonesia and was impressed. I'm confident he'll be the national team's future," said Herdman.

This narrative extends beyond one player. Baggott's return creates a domino effect in defense, particularly for Rizky Ridho.

Ridho views Baggott's comeback as a direct learning opportunity from a player with European experience.

"I'm happy he's trusted again to strengthen the team. He's grown significantly now. Plus, his experience is naturally richer, and I'll learn from the knowledge he gained playing in England," Ridho remarked.

The FIFA Series 2026 serves as a testing ground—not just for Herdman as the new architect, but also for how global standards can translate into Indonesia's playing identity.
