Indonesian Men's Singles Badminton Player Alwi Farhan secured his spot in the 2026 Swiss Open final after an impressive semifinal performance. Competing at St. Jakobshalle, Basel, on Saturday local time, Alwi successfully defeated China's representative Li Shi Feng in straight games.
This victory gives Indonesia a chance to win the title from the singles sector. Earlier, Putri Kusuma Wardani had also secured her place in the Women's Singles final.
Alwi defeated the world's seventh-ranked player with a score of 21-10, 21-19. This result also served as revenge after his previous loss to Li Shi Feng at the 2025 China Open (16-21, 9-21). Their head-to-head record is now tied at 1-1.

Alwi Dominates First Game
In the opening game, Alwi Farhan played aggressively from the start. He immediately led 4-2 and maintained his advantage into the interval at 11-4.
Alwi's consistent play made it difficult for Li Shi Feng to develop his game. Several unforced errors from the Chinese representative also benefited Alwi.
The Indonesian shuttler then extended the gap to 17-9 before closing the first game with a convincing 21-10 win.
Strong Mentality in Second Game
Entering the second game, Li Shi Feng tried to increase the pressure. The Chinese representative held a significant 11-5 lead at the interval.
However, Alwi showed strong mentality. He gradually chased the deficit through long rallies and more measured attacks.
These efforts paid off when Alwi managed to turn the situation around to 18-16.
He maintained this positive momentum until the end of the match. In the crucial points battle, Alwi ultimately secured a 21-19 victory and locked his ticket to the 2026 Swiss Open final.
Indonesia Aims for Two Titles
In the final, Alwi Farhan is scheduled to face Japan's Yushi Tanaka, who previously eliminated Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Putri Kusuma Wardani will compete for the women's singles title against Thailand's Supanida Katethong.
The success of these two Indonesian representatives opens the opportunity for the Red and White (Indonesia) to win two titles at this BWF World Tour tournament.
On the other hand, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting had to stop his run in the semifinals after losing to Yushi Tanaka 17-21, 12-21.
Mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah suffered a similar fate, exiting after losing to China's Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi 21-14, 15-21, 13-21.
Nevertheless, Alwi Farhan and Putri Kusuma Wardani's success in reaching the finals remains a positive signal for Indonesian badminton performance in the BWF World Tour.
