The Lebaran homecoming atmosphere isn't always synonymous with long queues and crowded platforms. At one of Jakarta's busiest stations, the experience of waiting for a train turned into a small celebration of Nusantara culture.

Through an initiative by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) via its subsidiary KAI Wisata, homecomers from Pasar Senen Station were greeted by the melodies of gamelan and traditional dance performances at the start of the Lebaran 1447 Hijriah transportation period.

This program not only provided entertainment but also became a new way to enliven the homecoming tradition, an annual Indonesian ritual rich with meaning as people journey back to their hometowns.

KAI Wisata Commercial Director, Hetty Herawati, stated that this activity was a form of appreciation for customers who chose trains as their homecoming transportation mode.

"So, one of our commitments from KAI Wisata, as part of the larger KAI family, is to provide entertainment. And today, we see dances and gamelan performances enlivening the station, which we specially brought in to entertain the customers present here," said Hetty at Pasar Senen Station Jakarta, Friday.

When the Station Becomes a Cultural Stage

On March 13, 2026, KAI Wisata utilized the moment of the Lebaran transportation send-off to present a warmer Travel Experience for passengers.

Customers were treated to traditional art performances while waiting for their departure schedules.

Regional dances and the sound of gamelan resonated through the station hall, creating an atmosphere different from the usual travel routine.

For some passengers, this moment became an opportunity to experience the richness of Indonesian Culture again before returning to their hometowns.

The performance captured the attention of homecomers in the departure area.

"Yes, earlier we saw many customers watching and enjoying it," she said.

Many of them paused briefly, watched the performance, and even captured the moment with their phone cameras before their journey began.

Takjil to Warm the Journey

Besides cultural entertainment, KAI Wisata also distributed takjil (break-fasting snacks) to customers waiting for their trains.

This simple initiative was part of the effort to enhance passenger comfort, especially for those observing Ramadan fasting.

The distribution of takjil wasn't just an additional service; it also fostered a sense of togetherness that often lies at the heart of Indonesia's homecoming tradition.

For many people, the journey home isn't just about moving between cities; it's an emotional journey filled with hope and memories.

Premium Travel for the Homecoming Season

Besides providing entertainment at the station, KAI Wisata also prepared around 30,000 seats on Premium Tourist trains during the 2026 Lebaran transportation period.

These seats were available through three flagship services: the Imperial train, Panoramic Train, and the Priority train.

These three services were designed to offer a Travel Experience distinct from conventional trains.

The Panoramic Train features large picture windows, allowing passengers to enjoy the landscapes along the journey.

Meanwhile, the Priority and Imperial trains offer more spacious seating and premium services for long-distance travel.

For some homecomers, Traveling by train isn't just a means of transport to reach home—it's also a way to enjoy the journey itself.
