Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander broke the legendary record held by Wilt Chamberlain. The new record was set after he scored 35 points as his team won 104-102 over the Boston Celtics in an NBA game at Paycom Center.

According to NBA data, Gilgeous-Alexander has now recorded at least 20 points in 127 consecutive games. This achievement surpasses Chamberlain's record that had stood since 1963.

The record was confirmed via a mid-range shot with 7 minutes and 4 seconds remaining in the third quarter. That shot tied the score at 69-69. That moment also marked a new milestone in the career of the Canadian guard.

Gilgeous-Alexander closed the game with an impressive performance: 35 points, nine assists, and six rebounds. He was also highly efficient, making 13 of his 18 field goal attempts.

This victory extends the Thunder's positive streak, as they have now secured seven consecutive wins.

This series of results has occurred since Gilgeous-Alexander returned to play after recovering from an abdominal muscle injury that caused him to miss the All-Star game.

The match between the defending Champion Thunder, who also hold the league's best record, and the 2024 NBA champion Celtics, was fiercely contested until the final seconds. Both teams exchanged leads throughout the final quarter.

With just over a minute remaining, Gilgeous-Alexander gave the Thunder a 100-98 lead with a pull-up jumper.

However, the Celtics responded immediately when Jaylen Brown tied the game with two Free throws with 50.8 seconds left.

The Thunder star scored crucial points again with a jumper from the free-throw line, Putting his team ahead 102-100 with 29.6 seconds remaining.

The drama continued when Brown once again tied the score at 102-102 with a turnaround shot with 23 seconds left.

The game grew increasingly tense towards the end.

In the final seconds, Alex Caruso missed a three-point attempt for the Thunder.

However, the situation changed when Chet Holmgren grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled with only 0.9 seconds remaining.

Holmgren then executed both free throws perfectly to secure the Thunder's 104-102 victory.

A last-second long-range three-point attempt by the Celtics' Payton Pritchard failed to find the mark.

For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown was the top scorer with 34 points.

Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum did not play as he is still recovering from surgery on his right Achilles tendon.

He has only appeared in three games since returning to the court.

Next, the Thunder are scheduled to host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, March 15.

Meanwhile, the Celtics will visit the Washington Wizards on Saturday, March 14.
