A crucial decision was made by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Amid escalating war tensions in Asia, the global basketball governing body postponed the schedule for the 2025-2026 FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) season.

Through its official website, FIBA stated the postponement affects both major competitions – WASL-Gulf League and WASL-West Asia League – following developments in Iran and surrounding regions.

FIBA's Regional Office in Asia explained this decision serves as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of all involved parties, including players, match officials, and support staff from participating clubs and national federations.

Sagesse vs Shahrdari Gorgan Match Postponed

In the WASL-West Asia League, the final group stage match between Sagesse BC and Shahrdari Gorgan was postponed until further notice. The game was originally scheduled for Zouk Mikayel, Lebanon on Thursday, March 5.

This delay follows growing concerns over regional security stability.

Gulf League Semifinal Series Also Delayed

Postponement was also implemented for WASL-Gulf League, specifically the best-of-three semifinal series.

Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad was initially scheduled to host Kuwait Club in Jeddah on Monday, March 9.

The following day, Al Ula was set to face Al Arabi in Madinah.

All these fixtures, including subsequent matches previously scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays the following week, have been suspended.

FIBA Closely Monitoring Situation

FIBA emphasized it continues to closely monitor developments and maintain tight coordination with participating clubs and relevant national federations.

Revised WASL competition schedules will be announced when deemed appropriate.
