Disappointment was palpable after the Indonesian National Team's journey to the 2026 World Cup came to a halt. Yet, amidst that frustration, the Garuda captain, Jay Idzes, delivered a meaningful message about hope, struggle, and resurgence.

Through a post on his personal social media, Jay didn't hide his disappointment. But beneath the somber tone, there lay a spirit to keep moving forward and not give in to circumstances.

"It's tough when you've worked on something for so long, only to fail," wrote Jay Idzes.

"Maybe it's just not the right time, maybe the Almighty has a different path. Perhaps we need this experience to learn and grow."

A Journey Unfinished

The Indonesian National Team indeed had no luck. In their second match of the fourth round, Group B, 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Jeddah, on Sunday night, Garuda had to concede a 0-1 defeat to Iraq via Zidane Iqbal's goal in the 76th minute.

Previously, Shin Tae-yong's squad also narrowly lost 2-3 to Saudi Arabia. These two defeats dashed Indonesia's chances of advancing to the next stage and left them bottom of the group.

But for Jay, this result is not the end of the story. He believes that defeat is also a crucial part of the process towards the team's maturity.

"This opportunity can become a pivotal moment to strengthen our mentality and experience as we look towards the future," Jay emphasized.

Jay believes every match, win or lose, is a lesson. As a young player newly experiencing the big stage with the National Team, he sees this failure as a foundation for something greater in the future.

"Even though we lost, this journey doesn't feel like a failure," he continued.

"I understand everyone wants us to succeed immediately, so do we. However, we are building something not just for ourselves, but for future generations."

More Than Just Victory

Jay's words felt like a reflection of the new spirit growing within Indonesian football. For him, the National Team is not only fighting for a World Cup ticket but also to elevate the dignity of Indonesian football on the international stage.

"Our goal is to achieve great things together, but more importantly, to put Indonesian football on the world map," he said.

The statement sounds simple but carries deep meaning. A reminder that the National Team's long journey isn't solely about the final result, but about building a strong foundation for the future of national football—in terms of mentality, discipline, and team camaraderie.

Jay also didn't forget to appreciate the supporters. The unwavering support from the stands and social media, he said, was the fuel for the Garuda squad's spirit.

"This journey has been like a roller coaster, but you have always been there to support us," he said.

"Without all of you, we wouldn't be in this position. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

An Unbreakable Unity

In closing his message, Jay called for everyone to remain united. He reminded everyone that in football, defeat is not a reason to blame each other, but a moment to strengthen solidarity.

"I ask all of you to respect and support every player and staff member. Who are we if we start attacking each other when things go wrong? That's not us, that's not Indonesia. We are always together, no matter what happens. This is not the end for us, this is just the beginning," Jay asserted.

The message felt calming, yet also ignited spirit. That behind the tears and disappointment, there remains a strong belief: the Indonesian National Team is on the right path.

As great players often say, true champions aren't those who never lose, but those who rise every time they fall. And perhaps, that's where the true spirit of Garuda is being forged – amidst the wounds and the determination to soar higher.
