As a young star of Barcelona, Lamine Yamal's performances are often linked to statistics. This time, he is under scrutiny because his goal tally is considered not to reflect his significant influence on the pitch.
Since making his debut with the Barcelona first team in 2023, Yamal has recorded 39 goals from 135 appearances across all competitions.
That number is often used as a benchmark, even though his role on the field is broader than just being a goalscorer.

Responding to the criticism, Yamal emphasized that his game is not built solely on statistics.
He focuses more on the team's performance and his contribution to Barcelona's collective play.
“My game is not based on that. Controversy does arise because when I play well I don’t score, and when I score I don’t play well. But what I want is to play well, the team wins, and to keep it like this,” Yamal stated as quoted by Football Espana.
Amid the debate about individual performance, Yamal also shifted focus to the bigger context, the intense competition in LaLiga.
According to him, the Spanish League demands high consistency from the start to the end of the season.
“It’s the most difficult competition because it’s the longest, nothing is decided until the end and like last season, we have to fight until the end, get points, not lose, because it’s all important, and hopefully it will be like that,” said Yamal.
Barcelona is currently under strong pressure from their arch-rivals, Real Madrid. Blaugrana's lead at the top of the LaLiga Standings is only one point over Los Blancos. This situation makes every match crucially important in the title race.
A few weeks earlier, Barcelona had a four-point lead. However, the defeat to Real Sociedad three weeks ago became a turning point that cut the gap and reignited the title race.
Currently, Barcelona still leads the Standings with 55 points from 22 matches, while Real Madrid is hot on their heels in second place with 54 points.
