Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's journey in the Indonesia Masters 2026 came to an early halt. The Indonesian Men's Singles mainstay decided to withdraw from the tournament after suffering a lower back injury that made it impossible to continue competing.

Ginting had actually advanced to the second round and was scheduled to face Singapore's representative, Jason Teh, at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, January 22, 2026. However, his physical condition was not ideal following his first-round match played on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in the evening.

Problems with Ginting's back began to be felt right after his previous match ended. The PBSI coaching and medical team immediately made various recovery efforts so Ginting could still play in the second round.

"We tried our best with the PBSI physiotherapy team, did everything possible for him, tried to get him to recover this afternoon. Until this morning we were still trying to get him physiotherapy," said Indonesian Men's Singles coach Indra Wijaya.

However, the condition did not show significant improvement. During his warm-up before the match, Ginting again felt pain that made it unsafe for him to play.

"It turned out that after the warm-up earlier, he felt it wasn't possible to play. So I decided to withdraw Ginting from this second round," he said.

This withdrawal decision adds to the list of injuries Ginting has suffered. The 2018 and 2020 Indonesia Masters Champion was previously absent for quite a long time due to a shoulder injury sustained while competing at the French Open 2025 last October.

Although both are injuries, Indra Wijaya confirmed that this condition is different from the shoulder problem that previously affected Ginting's performance.

"This is different. The one early last year was his shoulder. The shoulder is fine now, even until now he hasn't had any more complaints. But this injury now, it really was unexpected. Unexpected," Indra stated.

With Ginting's withdrawal, the Indonesian men's singles sector now only has Alwi Farhan left in the Indonesia Masters 2026. Previously, Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah was also eliminated in the second round, leaving the host nation's hopes resting on the one remaining name in the main draw.
