Amidst the massive flow of year-end Travel, Borobudur Temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java, is preparing to become one of Indonesia's main tourist magnets. During the 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 (Nataru) holidays, visitor numbers to this world heritage site are projected to reach 170 thousand tourists, both domestic and international.
Commercial Director of InJourney Destination Management (IDM) or PT Taman Borobudur Temple Tourism, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, Gistang Ricard, stated the peak visits are expected to occur on December 25, 26, and 31, 2025.
"We see that in line with the national agenda from December 22, 2025 to January 1, 2026 during the Nataru Holiday, the visitor target is around 170 thousand tourists throughout the Nataru Holiday period," he said.

For management, this surge isn't just about numbers, but a momentum to deliver richer cultural and emotional experiences. Various attractions are prepared to enliven Borobudur's atmosphere during the holiday season.
One of these is Kampung Medang, featuring diverse traditional cuisine, along with a dolanan village as a children's play area with classic Nusantara folk games.
"Children there can enjoy many traditional games we provide. Then on Christmas Day, there will be special additions too—choir performances and we'll give gifts to visitors," he explained.
Additionally, management is reopening premium experiences: Borobudur Sunset and Borobudur Sunrise. Tourists can witness sunset and sunrise directly from the temple structure.
To attract more Domestic Tourists, special promotions have been prepared.
"Especially for domestic tourists, we offer a Rp350 thousand promo allowing visitors to ascend Borobudur Temple. Then at the peak on December 30, 2025, we'll present the Borobudur Masterpiece cultural performance in collaboration with Sabang Merauke—an exclusive Indonesian spectacle," he emphasized.
The Borobudur Masterpiece performance is designed as a meaningful year-closing event, blending art, culture, and national narratives within a sacred space that has stood for over a millennium.
Amidst the holiday bustle and human traffic, Borobudur offers reflection—gazing at the sunrise over ancient reliefs while contemplating civilization's enduring journey.
