Malaysian football suffered a heavy blow from Zurich. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee officially sanctioned the Malaysian national team by declaring a 0-3 loss in three international friendly matches under FIFA Matchday A or Tier 1 category.
This decision overturned the on-field results and placed the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) under intense scrutiny.
In its press release on Wednesday, December 17, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed it had received the latest decision from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee regarding punishment for fielding an ineligible player.

The decision was made during the FIFA Disciplinary Committee meeting on December 12, 2025, chaired by FIFA Disciplinary Committee Deputy Chairman Jorge Palacio.
In the hearing, FAM was found to have violated Article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (2025 Edition) for fielding an ineligible player in three Tier 1 international matches.
The three matches in question were part of the Harimau Malaya's important agenda throughout 2025. First, the Malaysia vs Cape Verde match at Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras, on May 29, 2025, ended in a 1-1 Draw.
Second, Malaysia's 2-1 victory over Singapore at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on September 4, 2025.
Third, a 1-0 win over Palestine at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri, Johor, on September 8, 2025.
The results of these three matches have now been annulled. Based on the FIFA Disciplinary Committee's ruling, Malaysia is declared to have lost all three matches by an identical 0-3 scoreline.
This decision impacts not only the match records but also the credibility of the national team management.
Furthermore, FAM was also handed a financial sanction. The Malaysian football federation was fined CHF 10,000, equivalent to approximately Rp209 million.
Facing this punishment, FAM has not yet taken further legal steps. The federation is choosing to act cautiously by seeking official clarification from FIFA before determining its next course of action.
“FAM will submit a written request to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee to obtain a full explanation of the basis for this decision before considering the next steps to be taken,” stated FAM.
This sanction serves as a stark reminder that at the international level, administrative details are as crucial as on-field performance.
Three matches that once provided optimism have now turned into a bitter record and a costly lesson in the journey of Harimau Malaya football.
