Premier League Matchweek 16 Results: Top Teams' Competition Gets Tighter, Arsenal Chased by Man City and Aston Villa

The hunt for the 2025/2026 Premier League title is intensifying. Arsenal still sits atop the standings, but their lead hasn't brought security. Manchester City and Aston Villa are closing in tightly, making the top-tier competition increasingly fierce through matchweek 16.

Pressure on the league leaders also comes from Aston Villa. Playing at London Olympic Stadium, Villa dramatically overturned a deficit to defeat West Ham United 3-2. This victory felt special as Villa conceded within just 29 seconds before showcasing strong mentality in their top-four pursuit.

Meanwhile, Arsenal experienced equally dramatic action. Hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at Emirates Stadium, The Gunners won 2-1 courtesy of two own goals from the visitors. These three points keep Arsenal in first place, though their advantage over rivals remains razor-thin.

Below the top-tier battle, Liverpool is steadily climbing. The defending champions extended their positive momentum after a midweek Champions League win by defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Anfield. 

Mohamed Salah played a key role with an assist for Hugo Ekitike's brace, propelling The Reds to sixth place with 26 points – level with seventh-placed Sunderland.
