The DP World Tour has officially announced a new award titled the Rory McIlroy Award. This new accolade serves as a special tribute to the Northern Irish golfer, who recently made history as Europe's first grand slam champion.

This prestigious award will debut at the start of the 2026 DP World Tour season, honoring the golfer who demonstrates the most consistent and outstanding performance across four major tournaments: The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship.

Golfers will compete through the Race to Dubai points system, with the highest cumulative points from these four tournaments determining the winner.

"Having an award named after me, to be passed down to future generations of players, is an immensely proud and deeply humbling honor," stated McIlroy.

"This means so much because the DP World Tour is where I launched my professional career. I've always loved competing here, and representing Europe in the Ryder Cup remains a point of immense pride."

With his Masters victory, McIlroy joins golf legends Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods as only the sixth golfer to win all four majors in men's professional golf history.

McIlroy's name now stands alongside other icons immortalized through DP World Tour awards, including Seve Ballesteros (Player of the Year), Harry Vardon (Race to Dubai Trophy), Sir Henry Cotton (Rookie of the Year), and John Jacobs (Legends Tour Order of Merit).

"I'm incredibly proud to be Europe's first career grand slam champion," McIlroy told cbssports.com.

"The majors represent the pinnacle of our sport, and I hope my success inspires fellow DP World Tour players to chase their dreams. I eagerly await seeing the first recipient in 2026—presenting that trophy personally will be an extraordinarily proud moment."

Although McIlroy remains active and is expected to add more major trophies, the 36-year-old is ineligible to receive the award bearing his own name.

The Rory McIlroy Award not only celebrates the star's extraordinary career but also symbolizes inspiration for Europe's new generation of golfers striving to reach golf's highest stages.
