Los Angeles Lakers are entering the most tense period at the start of the NBA season. The pride of the City of Angels has lost two of its stars simultaneously, Luka Dončić and LeBron James, within an almost overlapping timeframe.

For Darvin Ham's squad, this isn't just a physical test on the court, but also a test of mental fortitude and character.

Luka Dončić is sidelined for at least a week after suffering a left finger injury and a leg bruise, forcing him to miss the game against the Sacramento Kings.

In an official statement from the club cited on the NBA website on Monday, the Lakers stated Dončić will be re-evaluated in approximately one week.

Several media reports in the United States also confirmed the injury won't be long-term.

This comes while Dončić was at the peak of his performance. The Slovenian star delivered incredible performances in the first two games of the season, scoring over 40 points consecutively – 43 points in the loss to the Golden State Warriors and 49 points in leading the Lakers to victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Even more remarkably, he recorded those points despite injuring a finger on his non-dominant hand early in the game against Minnesota.

Dončić's absence is a heavy blow for the Lakers, especially as they are also still without LeBron James until mid-November due to sciatic nerve issues.

This situation forces Darvin Ham to rely on Austin Reaves, who has scored a total of 51 points in the first two games of this season.

Despite his extended absence, LeBron James continues to show his leadership spirit. The legend is present courtside for every game, assists in analyzing game replays during practice sessions, and keeps motivating his teammates to maintain focus under immense pressure.

"LeBron is always around the team, giving encouragement, giving advice. We all learn from his presence," said one Lakers coaching staff member during an open practice session.

The Lakers are now scheduled to play six games in the next nine days, a period that could be a turning point or even a test of endurance for the purple and gold.

Without Dončić and LeBron, all eyes are now on Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Anthony Davis to keep the hopes of winning alive early in the season.

Losing two megastars is certainly no easy task, but for the Lakers, this is the moment to prove they are not just a star-studded team, but also a team with fighting spirit.

And as the timeless NBA adage goes: "Great teams aren’t made when everything’s easy. They’re forged in adversity."
