Spain has once again emerged as a formidable bogey team for France on the international football stage. La Furia Roja secured their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after defeating Les Bleus with a convincing 2-0 scoreline in the semi-final fixture held at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas, early Wednesday local WIB time.
This result brings an end to Spain's 16-year long wait to return to the World Cup showpiece match. La Roja will now await the winner of the remaining semi-final between England and Argentina, to contest the most prestigious trophy in world football.
Far more than just a ticket to the final, this victory further reinforces Spain's dominance over France in recent years. La Roja have extended their positive head-to-head run, having won every single one of their last three meetings against Les Bleus across all international competitions.

The clash in Arlington marked the second time the two nations have met at the World Cup finals tournament. Their previous encounter came in the 2006 World Cup Round of 16, where France ran out 3-1 winners courtesy of two late goals in the final 10 minutes of play.
However, the competitive balance between the two sides has shifted drastically in recent years. From the 10 total meetings across all competitions prior to this 2026 World Cup semi-final, Spain held clear superiority with seven wins, one draw, and only two defeats against France.
This dominance was even more apparent in the two fixtures immediately before this World Cup semi-final. La Roja first knocked France out with a 2-1 victory at the Euro 2024 semi-finals, before defeating Les Bleus once again in a dramatic 5-4 UEFA Nations League semi-final clash last year.
For France, this defeat brings an abrupt end to their formidable run that had seen them perform near flawlessly throughout the 2026 World Cup until this point. Didier Deschamps' side arrived at the semi-final having recorded six consecutive victories from the group stage onwards.
On their path to the final four, Les Bleus had overcome Senegal, Iraq, Norway, Sweden, Paraguay and Morocco. Ahead of facing Spain, France had conceded just two goals across the entire tournament.
France's previously resolute defence finally collapsed when faced with Spain's fast, clinical style of play. Oyarzabal opened the scoring before Porro sealed the victory, simultaneously bringing Les Bleus' winning streak to a halt.
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente could not hide his pride following his side's qualification for the World Cup final. He noted that victory over one of the world's top ranked nations served as clear proof of his squad's quality.
"These players deserve everything. Day after day they have demonstrated commitment, solidarity, selflessness and raw talent. They make what is difficult look simple," stated De La Fuente.
De La Fuente's remarks reflect the consistent performance delivered by the La Roja squad throughout the tournament, with a carefully balanced blend of emerging young talent and experienced veteran players.
Now, Spain stand just one match away from lifting the World Cup trophy once again, having last claimed the title back in 2010.
